A rare and one of the earliest copy from the first edition
Olfert Dapper’s well-known book — Asia. A rare and one of the earliest copy from the first edition, dedicated to Cornelis de Wit.
Dapper’s work is considered one of the finest descriptions of the 17th-century Asia, offering far-reaching information on various countries—their geography, religion, mythology, language, and political conditions.
In the book a separate chapter is devoted to Georgia, then divided into kingdoms and principalities, with a title - Het Landschap van Georgie, including the following subchapters: Imereti (Het Landschap van Imereti of Basciaciuk), Kakheti (Het Landschap van Kacheti), Kartli (Het Landschap van Kardel of Karduel), Guria (Het Landschap van Guriel), Mingrelia (Odisci of Mengrellie, by ouds Kolchis), Abkhazia (Avogastes of Avogasie), Lazeti (Lazi of Kurten), and the Black Sea (Zwarte Zee).
The Georgian section of the book has a sample of the Georgian alphabet and a map of Mengrelia
